If any of you have ever driven through Walsall, you will know what a nightmare it is.
Walsall Council seems to have an unhealthy obsessions with traffic lights - the most absurd stretch is between the Arboretum crossroads and Junction 10 of the M6, where you drive through 13 sets of traffic lights along a stretch of road approximately 2000 metres long, making an average of a set of lights every 153 metres.
Is that really necessary? Does that amount of traffic lights promote free flowing traffic? I think not.
Whatsmore, the lights are frequently set in such a way that you get stopped at every single one of them - this is no good for your car, and means more pollution from cars stopping and then having to accelerate back up to speed.
This stop-start driving through Walsall also creates a further problem - you get a 'bunching' affect on traffic whereby you'll get a rush of around 40 or 50 cars coming along a stretch of road almost bumper-to-bumper, and then the road will be empty until the next 'bunch' of cars come along. This isn't using the road network to it's capacity, it's artificially creating queues and traffic.
Give me roundabouts any day!

Sutton Road Walsall to be 30mph limit
Heard Councillor Tom Ansell on the radio the other day speaking about how from March 2011 the Sutton Road in Walsall will be reduced from a 40mph speed limit to 30mph. I'm confused as to why this is needed?
Walsall Council seems to be dead set against anyone driving at more than 30mph in the borough!
If you dont know the Sutton Road, it's a wide, fairly straight road, with verges on either side, it could even have been a dual carriageway so I am told - so I really cannot see the thinking behind reducing the speed limit - apart from being able to punish more people for driving at 34mph!

Proposals for punishments for non-insured drivers
Read an article in this mornings Independent about government plans to 'clamp down' on uninsured drivers and couldn't believe what I was reading!
The coalition government want to compare databases from the DVLA and the insurance industry in order to identify uninsured drivers - if they find someone who isn't insured, they will be fined £100, yes thats right, £100. Is £100 enough of a deterrent to stop people failing to insure their car?
When you consider that the majority of uninsured drivers are probably uninsured because they can't afford the premium, or that they can afford it and just refuse to pay - a £100 fine is not only a risk worth taking, but will probably save uninsured drivers a bit of money if they manage to get a few months insurance free driving.
Furthermore, my insurance premium went up over £150 this year - and the reason cited by all the insurance companies who quoted me was "there's more uninsured drivers than ever", and that this was pushing up premiums. So I ask, who exactly is getting punished?
If ministers want to 'clamp down' on uninsured drivers then I suggest they grow a backbone and make punishments much less lenient - a £5000 fine, having their car confiscated and sold, the proceeds of which go to the public purse.

Motorway Cops & British Justice
Things that piss me off #1
British Justice
Did anyone happen to catch the episode of Motorway Cops of BBC1 the other night? To cut a long story short, they pulled over 2 Polish men and found they had thousands of pounds worth of stolen goods in their car, drugs and fake number plates.
To top it off, the one Polish chap had previous to do with fire arms.
Come the end of the program, when they summarise the punishment each of the featured cases received, I was dismayed to hear that these two Polish men, patently thieves totally lacking in respect for the laws of this country, and dangerous to boot, had been given bail, which they subsequently skipped! Unbelievable!
So, the moral of the story appears to be that if you're caught with illegal drugs and stolen goods, you are treated with leniency, but if you accidently drive through a speed camera on the A34 doing 35 you wont get such leniency.

Welcome to my blog
Welcome to my blog, I hope you enjoy it.
I'll be writing blogs about all sorts of stuff, mainly things that annoy me in life and things that I think need to be said! I might also have a few posts about my beloved Walsall F.C
